Women’s History Month: Women in Games Ambassador Viktoryia Mahuila

It’s Women’s History Month in March and, at Testronic, we are committed to supporting gender diversity, equity and belonging as part of our workplace culture. We are a proud Corporate Ambassador of the Women in Games (WIG) organisation, and we are happy to have a number of WIG Individual Ambassadors amongst our teams. Here we talk to our Recruitment Manager Viktoryia Mahuila about her work at Testronic, becoming a new Women in Games Ambassador, and her thoughts on how the games industry can better support women working in the sector…

Tell us about your role at Testronic, and what led you to work there.

As a Recruitment Manager at Testronic, I play a key role in attracting top talent to the games industry. My role is not just about filling vacancies, but creating opportunities, promoting inclusivity and ensuring that every candidate, regardless of background, feels capable of pursuing a career in games.

Unlike many people in the industry, I didn’t come from a video gaming background. I was never a gamer myself, but I always wanted to be a part of the video game industry. The idea of working for an industry that thrives on creativity, innovation and cutting-edge technology was incredibly exciting to me. Joining Testronic has given me a great opportunity to learn, grow, and prove that you don’t have to be a gamer to make a meaningful contribution to a video game company.

When did you become a Women in Games Ambassador, and why?

I became a Women in Games Ambassador this year as I wanted to actively participate in shaping a more inclusive video game industry. While I’ve always been passionate about diversity and representation, officially joining the initiative gave me a platform to make a tangible impact.

I wanted to show women – both those already in the industry and those just considering a career in games – that they belong here. My own journey in the games industry proves that you don’t have to be a gamer to have a successful and fulfilling career in games. By sharing my experiences, mentoring others, and advocating for change, I hope to inspire more women to take their place in this exciting, dynamic field.

What do you think are the challenges facing women working in the games industry?

The video game industry has made significant progress in recent years, but challenges remain, especially for women. As a traditionally male-dominated industry, it is sometimes more difficult for women to enter the industry, become visible and advance in their careers.

One of the key challenges is representation at all levels, especially in leadership positions. Women can face bias, fewer opportunities for advancement, and a lack of visible role models, which can make it difficult for long-term career growth in the industry. Increasing leadership diversity is necessary to create a more inclusive environment.

Additionally, creating truly inclusive workplaces is an ongoing endeavor. Women working in games can sometimes experience imposter syndrome, unconscious bias, or feelings of under-representation. Having strong support networks, mentorship programs, and professional development opportunities can make a big difference in making women feel valued and empowered.

What do you think the industry as a whole can do to better support women already working in the sector, and in attracting more to consider a career in games?

Creating a more inclusive video game industry requires more than just increasing the number of women in the workforce – it’s about providing them with the support, opportunities and resources to thrive. Companies can take meaningful steps by focusing on retention, professional development, and leadership growth. This includes:

  • Creating mentoring and sponsorship programs to help women advance in their careers.
  • Implementing inclusive policies, such as flexible work schedules and equal pay, to support work-life balance and career advancement.
  • Fostering a positive workplace culture where all employees feel valued, respected and empowered.
  • Highlighting female role models and success stories to inspire the next generation of women considering a career in video games.

By creating an environment where women are supported, encouraged and given equal opportunities, the industry will not only be able to retain talented employees, but also attract more women to pursue exciting careers in the games industry.
