Dune: Awakening

Funcom required a reliable QA partner to support Dune: Awakening through its closed beta, open beta, early access, and global release. This level of support demanded

The scope and technical demands of the project presented several key challenges:

• Game complexity & milestone preparedness: The game’s multiplayer systems (PVP and PVE) generated a naturally high volume of issues typical of development of this scale.
• Multi-site production & communication: Development spanned several global sites, which added layers of complexity to information flow.
• Scalability of QA efforts: A flexible scale model was necessary to effectively address the needs of the project at any given moment.

To deliver successfully, Testronic combined its Functionality QA expertise with proactive risk management and communication solutions. Testronic established a tailored QA pipeline designed to manage the game’s complexity and Funcom’s organizational needs. Key strategies included data-driven FQA through periodic in-depth status and contextual reviews with the development which helped provide Funcom with actionable insights that informed and refined development priorities. Funcom’s leadership valued the structured analyses and insights so highly that they requested additional executive-level reporting.

Global communication was optimized to address multi-site challenges. Testronic deployed an on-site coordination team that streamlined both digital and in-person communication flows. This ensured information reached FQA teams promptly and consistently. Finally, to enable rapid ramp-ups as needed, Testronic created a scalable testing model for flexible resourcing.

The collaboration between Testronic and Funcom helped deliver a successful launch for Dune: Awakening embraced by both critics and players.
